Information on Dithmarschen
Dithmarschen County is surrounded by water: in the north by the River Eider, in the east by the Kiel Canal which links the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, in the south by the River Elbe and in the west by the North Sea.
Dithmarschen is a district administration (“Landkreis”) in Schleswig-Holstein and covers an area of 1 437.84 km2.
At present, there are 133 915 inhabitants (as at 30.06.2012), of which 4 810 (as at 31.12.2011) have foreign nationality. This represents about 4 percent.
The largest towns are Heide (20,791 inhabitants) and Brunsbüttel (13,006 inhabitants).
